Why Have A Juvenile Curfew?
Statistics show that the ordinance of curfew is effective in meeting its purpose - to protect juveniles and other persons during the night time hours, to aid in crime prevention, and to decrease juvenile crime rates.
Changes in state legislation prompted an amendment to the Juvenile Curfew Ordinance, on July 11, 1995, to establish separate curfew for juveniles under the age of 12 and to establish a curfew for 17 year olds.
Exceptions to the operation of the curfew:
- A juvenile who is going to or returning home from an official school, religious, or other recreational activity supervsied by adults, and
- Sponsored by a city, a civic organization, or another entity that take responsbility for the juvenile.
- All other stops are a violation of curfew.
